In August the Simpcw First Nations hosts the First Fish Ceremony. The day’s activities begin at noon when the pit cook is created. You will learn how our local First Nations people - Simpcw used to cook in a pit and still use this traditional method today for special occasions, such as this First Fish Ceremony. They will layer rocks, grasses, Rose Hips, Saskatoon branches, Douglas Fir boughs, and Salmon and vegetables inside the pit and cover it up until the cooking is complete which usually takes around five hours.
